At the Chertsey bridge

We have a guest today with us, a young man aspiring to be a Salesian.  Fr John and I took a long walk with him around the Chertsey meads and beside the Thames.

An interesting fact about the Chertsey bridge: the last last arch on either side of the bridge were later additions and are not of the same size.  Reason: The architects miscalculated the length.  Hence in a last minute venture they had to make the last arch to really connect the bridge to the existing road!
