Mum just needs to get a whiff of something and she latches onto it like a shark sensing a drop of blood! But unlike the shark, she only wants her child to be happy and safe.
Couldn't resist taking a pic of this drawing I found along the walls of the sports hall of a primary school sometime ago.
I've always had a problem with exalting mothers and motherhood, even as a child. And after learning psychology and counselling, I know more about why. Mothers are normal people with their strengths and flaws. Like fathers too. They help build and damage personalities. Mothering is the most important function of an adult towards a baby. It need not be a 'mother' who does it. It's like the differentiation in meaning you told me that Taylor made, the subjective human meaning and the objective life meaning (if i understood correctly).
ReplyDeleteOne of the untaught interventions I made with a friend ages ago, was to tell him very honestly that I thought it was perfectly okay for him to dislike his mother. There was no crime in it at all. It helped him a lot.
