And sometimes this does not matter. But at times, it does matter. A lot. You just have to figure out when and how. Simple huh! I do love you but you gotta meet my standards too.

Hehe.. as you can see, this story had a lot of impact on me for many years. Will stop about it. The relationship is servant and master. Not father and son. Of power, not love. Of being put to the test and failing. And the very serious consequences of failing. So no matter whether the "others" love us or value us for what we are, this story tells us that it's what we do that counts. A natural justice perhaps but perfectionism seems an understandable outcome then. And the treadmill of anxiety because the master's favour is only conditional to how productive we are. Like the good soil. The wise virgins. The last judgement.
The reason I thought of this again today, was the preacher said that Jesus taught the Be-attitudes not the do-attitudes (speaking in the context of the readings and the law). But with all the church rules and laws, and the confusing fragments we have of Jesus' teachings, it is hard to fully trust something as strange as unconditional love. I think I give up trying to understand or believe in doctrines of any kind. I think my faith definition continues to be the Our father though. Small mercies.cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06211696826518610027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694921645350070657.post-6937434734962710372018-09-01T15:06:33.147+01:002018-09-01T15:06:33.147+01:00hehe. yeah. agreehehe. yeah. agreecherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06211696826518610027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694921645350070657.post-73982857928953755872018-09-01T14:51:57.751+01:002018-09-01T14:51:57.751+01:00One of those anxiety-producing paradoxes in the go...One of those anxiety-producing paradoxes in the gospels. Their states of life are equal- birth and death- that's all.

So when we speak of treating each other as equals, I think of it as treating a person with the minimum required respect due to a human. If I look at persons as individuals, i cannot honestly say that I treat everyone equally because of their uniqueness. I can't stand some people and I love others, but would I willingly kill those I can't stand? No. That's why capital punishment is so hard for me to decide upon. If we try out that assumption on water or ice, there may be different consequences. Then we get to know that the assumption holds good only for the ground. If however, we were so interested, we could ask why is it not the same on all surfaces and then get into the reasons and understanding of the nature and properties of different matter.
So, the question of belief tends to arise when an opposing/ different notion or fact is proposed for examination. Until then, there is no need to have any belief. There are experiences that lead to assumptions. So if it were about god. If I had no concept of god, I would have no beliefs about it. Because I have a concept of god, I make some assumptions and declarations. When those assumptions are challenged, i make those into beliefs. If i experience god, i would not have assumptions or beliefs about it. It would become fact.
hehehe.. now I understand that I assume that belief needs no proof and I'm not sure what I'm talking about :D

suddenly remembered the movie, the gods must be crazy. When the coke bottle falls from the sky, their beliefs are the context in which they interpret the fact/experience of the bottle.
at this rate, sweetie, I will go crazy. I hear...Actually there's an interesting story.. I heard on a Bangalore walk of Lalbagh. We were looking at juniper trees and the guide told us that juniper berries were used to make gin. Then he proceeded to tell us about the famous gin and tonic drink. The whole concept of tonic water seems to have been created for India. During the early Raj days, the white man was usually wiped out by malaria. The cure was quinine and they came up with the idea of mixing quinine in water, especially for the troops. So the tonic water was created. It was rather bitter and generally mixed with gin. Hence the gin and tonic. Naturally, Indians didn't really need to drink tonic water. Only the Brits :D With modern medicine, there is no need to have tonic water any more either.cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06211696826518610027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694921645350070657.post-32080004262210758482018-04-05T06:17:53.613+01:002018-04-05T06:17:53.613+01:00What a lovely quote! What a lovely quote!cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06211696826518610027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694921645350070657.post-33470464420192095292018-04-04T05:19:29.509+01:002018-04-04T05:19:29.509+01:00:D :D correct! trust a farmer to be so pragmatic.:D :D correct! trust a farmer to be so pragmatic.cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06211696826518610027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694921645350070657.post-68163985758028530392018-04-04T05:16:17.411+01:002018-04-04T05:16:17.411+01:00It's so true no? If one experienced something, there would be no need for the arguments I guess. Certainly not in this particular relationship.

It's because I've given so much importance to the intellectual understanding of things versus their visceral experience, that any experience that bypasses my brain makes me wonder if it really happened.
